My Activities
My Background and experience
I am a fully qualified and registered Early Childhood Education (ECE) teacher with over 20 years experience teaching young children. I have spent most of my teaching time in Auckland in a kindergarten setting, but have spent time teaching at an International School in Shanghai. I have also had extensive experience relief teaching in a range of different settings and philosophies. I entered into home based education in 2021 after having my own child. I love the small ratios, close relationships, quality interactions and unique experiences that home-based education offers.
I hold a Bachelors degree from the University of Auckland, majoring in Psychology/Education, and a Graduate Diploma in Teaching (ECE). Following an interest in neurodiversity I went on to study Early Intervention at Canterbury University, I achieved a Postgraduate Diploma in Specialist Teaching. I have a current first aid certificate and a full drivers license. I continue to maintain my full registration with the New Zealand Teaching Council.
My Home-Based Childcare Philosophy
My teaching philosophy is centred around respectful, reciprocal relationships, between myself, the child and their whanau. I believe the value of homebased education lies in this. With only four children, we have the opportunity to really know a child and their family, and in turn offer unique, personalised learning experiences and interactions. I am also able to fully support the development of respectful, reciprocal relationships and friendships between the children, promoting the development of strong pro social behaviours. My purpose is to support children as competent, confident learners, with a growth mindset and a love for learning.
My learning Environment
My home offers an open, inviting space for children and whanau, I have an open door policy so families are always welcome. I aim to provide a safe and nurturing environment that encourages interest, curiosity and exploration. I believe in playbased learning and I offer a wide range of opportunities and resources to support, challenge and extend learning.
I have a large play space, both inside and out, a dedicated play room, sleep room, a garden, sandpit, climbing frame and a park right next door! I offer a variety of art experiences, baking, sensory play, construction materials and imaginative play. We often enjoy song, dance, music, endless books, puzzles and puppets. I aim to tailor the resources and experiences I provide to the emerging interests of the child so these are always changing. However we also have regular weekly outings to cover a range of curriculum areas, and to build relationships and connections within our learning community.
