My Activities
My Background and Experience
I hold 2 BAs (English and Teaching of French as a Foreign Language), Qualified Teacher Status (UK) and a NZ Level 4 Certificate in Early Childhood Education and Care. My experience encompasses teaching French at all levels (kindergarten to University) and translation (UN conference documents, misc.) and on a personal level, raising three (now all adults!) beautiful children.
My Home-Based Childcare Philosophy
Since moving to NZ in 2012, I have focused on preschoolers, and I love it! I cater to francophone children through a fun-centered learning and nurturing environment. I aim to develop the children’s psychomotor, emotional, social, language and cognitive skills through a variety of activities, all in full French immersion!
My Learning Environment
My husband and I live in a quiet cul-de-sac in Epsom and our home provides a safe, cosy and calm environment for children to learn and play; we also have an outdoor area, half grassy/ half tiled with shade. We pay daily visits (except in downpours!) to the local park/ playground (lots of fun there!) and occasionally go on special outings.
Family Testimonial
I would like to thank Sylvie for being my children’s French teacher. She does not only focus on the children’s academic performance, but she also pays attention on their etiquette, character, ethic and moral. Sylvie is a teacher with strong principles and I admire that. In addition to her professional skills, she is also very patient and I can see that she genuinely like the kids, it’s not just a ‘job’ for her. – July 2020
I believe Sylvie does an excellent job with Rhys. He is always happy to go to school and even looks forward to it, the odd time on the weekend he’s asked to go! Sylvie is excellent encouraging Rhys to do things outside his comfort zone, for example art, singing and dancing. I also love the little art projects Rhys brings home. Sylvie seems to cover a range of learning areas for Rhys, including coaching him to control his emotions. I believe she covers a range and should continue to do it – it’s a great recipe for success! Sylvie is a great teacher to our son. I think the greatest sign of this is that Rhys clearly respects Sylvie while still enjoying each day he attends. – May 2022
We love what Sylvie is doing with Matteo. Since he started, his French, curiosity and creativity have improved so much. She always finds amazing activities to do. We love it and Matteo loves Sylvie a lot and even refuses to go to daycare now. – August 2021
I admire Sylvie’s patience with all the kids and I appreciate her calm and collective demeanor with all of them. I know that Laya appreciates Sylvie so much and she enjoys going to her house to see her and her friends. As Laya would repeat songs and daily morning routines that she learns with Sylvie at home, it gives me a great insight of Laya’s learning progress and especially her growing knowledge within the French language. Seeing Laya think and talk about her time at Sylvie’s without me always having to ask her directly gives me great joy and assurance that Laya is doing well. Receiving a weekly storypark of what the kids have learned throughout the week, including pictures and songs they have learned, is always a great moment to share at home. She feels proud and encouraged to share her work she has done throughout her week. I think Sylvie as an excellent teacher, caretaker and friend for young children and I would always recommend her. – June 2022
