Meet Anel

Hi there, my family are originally from South Africa, where I was a social worker. We came to New Zealand in 2013, Since then we have made New Zealand our home and we love this beautiful country! We have been living in Auckland. I love to interact with our beautiful and spontaneous children. I love to see how they grow and develop and how they look at the world with innocent and courageous eyes. I believe that love and respect for our children and their individual situations will allow us to guide our children to become well-developed individuals who will reach for the stars!

My Background and experience

I hold a ECE level 3 qualification, and a current first aid certificate. I started my ECE teacher journey over 10 years ago when we came to New Zealand. I started in a Centre and came to home-based childcare when my own two boys started school. I love the individual time, connections, and strong bonds that you create with children in home-based care.

My Home-Based Childcare Philosophy

My philosophy is based on providing a warm, safe, loving environment where your child will learn and grow while they feel like they are home, engulfed in love, care, and respect. I believe that every child is born innocent and unique and that we as caregivers help them to develop and grow into the beautiful individuals that will change the world around them. I love using the environment as a ‘third teacher’, where I follow the children’s interests and schemas, providing provocations and invitations for learning. I believe that play-based learning is important to a child’s development and promotes self-worth. It develops the child’s interest and creates dreams for the future.

My learning Environment

My home is warm and cozy, I enjoy my family living and playing in and around the home. I have a fully fenced backyard with lots of different activities for the children to enjoy. There are sand and water play activities and room for physical activities like climbing and bike riding.

Inside we have plenty of resources for imaginary play and sensory play, lots of dress up’s, reading, writing, cutting, drawing, and painting provocations.

We like to go out in the community, visiting parks, libraries, playgrounds, and beaches. We also attend the Kia Ora Kids playgroups, as well as regular meetups with other educators providing your child the opportunity for peer socialization and the ability to interact in a bigger group setting.

“It takes a community to raise a child”, and Home-based care provides a big part of that community. We all work together to build the best home and educational care for our children.

I want to give a huge shoutout to Anel, our amazing home care provider for our youngest daughter! She’s truly been a blessing for our family. Her warmth and patience have made such a difference, always prioritizing our daughter’s best interests. We’re so grateful for the love and care she brings every day. Since moving our daughter to her care, we’ve seen her skills improve and she’s been sick so much less. I can’t recommend her highly enough!

Anel provides a safe, calm and enriching environment for little ones. She is an extraordinary caregiver: organised, patient, and inclusive. She introduces the children to a wide range of experiences and activities, utilising the many resources she has access to within the Kia Ora kids network. She has now helped raise two of our children, and we would not hesitate to recommend her to any other families.
