Meet Wendy

Kia Ora, Hello,

I have had over 30 years caring for pre-schoolers as an experienced, dedicated and passionate ECE teacher. Over this time I have nurtured young minds in both ECE centres – also being Head Teacher & Supervisor within the centre, and through home based settings. Originally from ChristChurch, I moved to Auckland 24 years ago, with my husband and two sons. I enjoy being able to help support parents with their children’s nurturing, growth and sense of self worth through the pre-school years. My goal is to provide a home away from home, with a nurturing and stimulating environment where children can grow and thrive. I look forward to having the opportunity to work alongside your family and supporting your child’s growth and development.

My Background and experience

I hold a Diploma in Early Childhood Education, current first aid certificate, and full drivers license. I have been an Early Childhood Education Teacher for 35 years, and after working in Early Childhood Education Centres, when I moved to Auckland 24 years ago, I started my journey in Home Based Childcare and have never looked back.

My Home-Based Childcare Philosophy

My philosophy is based on creating a safe and nurturing environment where all children can learn and grow. Home Based Care, being low ratios, allows me to build close relationships with both the children and families, and to know the children’s interests that we can focus on. I create a welcoming, honest, and respectful environment where children and families feel respected, comfortable & safe through their pre-school journey.

I believe children grow in an environment where play based learning, alongside others, is crucial to children’s development, and I believe that in a home based setting children can thrive within the low ratios and lots of one on one care and attention.

My Environment

My home has alot of natural light, is warm and cozy and has a large fully fenced flat  backyard with a large deck, concrete area & grass area, with lots of room for the children to run around, ride bikes, and play. I have a 13 year old German Short Haired Pointer dog called Rico, who has grown up around all the children in my care, and is the gentlest dog who loves to just chill and snooze, and sometimes even becomes part of the children’s play as they gently ride the small cars over him.

The children and I enjoy both inside and outside activities. I have plenty of resources including messy play, arts and crafts, books, and lots of construction and building play equipment, and we regularly bake treats.

We attend regular play groups, including the Kia Ora Kids play group, a music group, local parks and bush walks and libraries within the community, and meet up regularly with other educators.

As a parent, you want and need the best. I chose home-based childcare because I wanted values. Wendy outstandingly went beyond to make this happen, with home baking, teaching life skills, ect. I just love my decision to choose home-based childcare, and I would recommend Wendy to anyone

Wendy was a big part of my two boys’ lives both from a young age until they were ready for school. As a family, we cherish the time they spent in her care. She always keeps us updated with the fun activities they got up to during the day. Both our boys 9 and 13 often speak of Wendy. The environment she creates is warm and inviting and the kids are always doing new and fun activities and going out for outings. We feel very lucky that both our boys flourished under her care and we highly recommend her!

Our son has been with Wendy since he was 10 months old and now he is almost four! He loves going to Wendy’s, it sure is a home away from home. Wendy is warm, and caring and is like a second mum to him. I feel so at ease knowing that he will be taken care of whenever he is there. He has learned so many life skills there and has developed great friendships and social skills with his friends and from their local play-groups and music. We are very lucky to have found Wendy!

We were so fortunate and feel privileged to have had Wendy caring for our two children from newborn to school ready. A home away from home. The environment of Wendy’s home-based childcare fell nothing short of perfect.  Always fun activities planned, walks, baking, cool crafts, play, reading and a personal diary with pictures and stories of their journey together. I personally learnt a lot from Wendy and was sad when the kids time had finished. Her natural warmth and caring nature made it so easy dropping the children off. Brooklyn thirteen and Lila-Grace ten, still talk about her fondly. I would one hundred percent recommend her.

From the first moment our child went into Wendy’s care, she decided herself that she was secure and happy. We never looked back and Wendy became our nurturing angel in our child’s formative years. We couldn’t recommend her enough.
